Genocide

Patrick Dunfee Genocide paper September 30 Genocide, also known as ethnic cleansing, is still a possibility while living in this imperfect world. Scary for sure, but it only takes one person with the power needed to engage in the act of such violence. We as the young generation have studied the history of genocide. It only takes one person with the hatred of one specific group of individuals and the power to try to exterminate the specific group. I say this with some suspicion, but who is to say that the SS soldiers that were in charge of the concentration camps weren’t just following orders from Hitler. They could have been everyday people with families and a job; you never know what Hitler offered those people that were in charge of the concentration camps. Once given something that has great meaning to the specific person they might of just thought that the item was of greater value than what they already had. In my opinion Hitler was a very selfish person that needed to be shot in the head. It’s too bad that he killed himself before American soldiers were able to get to him. If they were to reach him before he shot himself I think that he would have been in a world of hurt in many different ways. After reading about what Hitler did I think that good out weighed evil because there was only one person that organized the camps and what happened to them at the camps. I bet that the SS soldiers were offered something in return for following Hitler’s living hell instructions. The inmates of the concentration camps were just following the commands that they were given in hopes of keeping their own lives. They only acted because of the horrific plans Hitler had for the weak and old. The inmates had no idea what was going on at first, but once they figured it out they were just acting on the commands that were given. In my opinion the inmates had more good than evil because everyone in the camps were doing what was told to them, but the commands were really only given by one person. I think that there could be a modern day genocide because of the almost daily shootings that take place and all of the kidnappings that happen all over the world. All it will take is for the wrong person to be elected president. With all that has happened in earlier years I can see a person of the higher power taking his/her power to far and trying to annihilate a specific group. I know that there are laws to help prevent such a tragic event from occuring again, but I don’t have a good feeling about what is to come in later years. I think that the people with so called disabilities will be the first group to be targeted because of all the misconceptions about them. It only takes the wrong person to be of the higher power to carry out the tragic act.
