So Far..

I am reading the book Hey Stoopid by Judith Lane. The main character's name is Jack. His mom thought he was the most beautiful, most perfect son she ever had. Until... she found out when he was 2 years old that he was profoundly retarded. Then she dropped him off at her moms, left, never came back, and never called to check up on him. His grandmother died when he was 13 years old. That left him to fend for himself. One night he was scrounging through a dumpster, when a social worker found him and found him a shelter. He was profoundly brain damaged from the drugs his mother took when she was pregnant. All the kids always made fun of him.

The book got my attention right away because it's about the severely profound and I've helped out the handicaped my whole life. The book makes me happy and mad at the same time.

  1. This sounds like an intriguing book. I'm not sure how a mother could ever abandon her child because he wasn't "perfect".
I'm left wondering why you feel both happy and mad at the same time.

  2. I felt happy because I finally found a book that has to do with things that I enjoy doing. Like helping out the severely profound. And it makes me sad because I CAN'T believe that anyone could ever to that to there child. I would be devastated if my little sister Tea'maria had been taken away cause her mother didn't like her because she was profound. Not saying she is, but if that happened. I would fight every inch in my power to get her back in my arms.
