I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings By: Maya Angelou is my favorite book that I've read. It's about a too smart for her own good but insecure black girl in the south during the 1930's and in California during the 1940's. Maya's parents had gotten a divorce when she was just 3 years old. Through the years Maya and her older brother Bailey have a hard time dealing with the pain of the rejection of their parents.
I like this book because I kind of reminds me of my childhood. I had a rough childhood too. I just got out of an abusive home, people have threatened to kill and stab me, I've been bullied to much. Sure I'm not black so I don't know what all of it is like but I do know quite a bit. This books will make you think twice about reading again. It sure made me want to read more. Life is hard but it's not hard forever.
A well written book by an amazing author. Sometimes reading about people who have overcome terrible times can be motivating to us, even if we didn't experience what they did.
